– The closing hour of prayer of the 40 Days for Life Autumn Campaign in Christchurch, New Zealand, November 2015
My name is Daniel Côté Davis and I was the campaign director for 40 days for Life, Christchurch, New Zealand in the Autumn Campaign of 2015. It was a great joy and experience of God’s loving providence to serve in this mission. I have learnt that what is most important is to allow God to work in a little way in our hearts as we wait in humble trust for the actions of His Holy Spirit.
40 Day for Life is a gift from God to our world and sign of His Mercy in our times for all those who have the eyes of faith to see the Kindness and Faithfulness of the Lord working through all those who commit through faith and actions to be His instruments for the end of abortion in our generation.
Some of the fruits I experienced and can witness to through our campaign were – personal conversion, rediscovery of God’s presence in our midst, a deeper understanding of the mystery of the Church, a growth in understanding of the need to bring the love of Jesus to those most in need of His Kind Love and Compassion in the community.
Personal conversion happens when we consecrate time to God, this is the joy of one of the hidden fruits of every 40 days for Life campaign in all those who come. Many people of different denominations and age groups, came and prayed, some for an hour, some for five hours in a row and others passerbys who stopped in faith to contemplate, pray and call on the name of the Lord. The fruits of these prayers in the personal lives of these people, some of whom gave testimonies of transformation at the closing event, were sign of hope for the whole community that was formed through the campaign.
Through the 40 days, we learnt that God was present with us and that He assisted us to be witnesses of His Kingdom of Peace. The Lord guided the hearts of all who came to be united in peaceful witness and this was one of the gifts we experienced of the power of prayer, through the peaceful oasis the prayer creates in the presence of a place of darkness in the community. Through this peace we called for the Kingdom of Light to return. The Kingdom of the Heart of Jesus.
In our campaign we grew in our awareness of the mystery of the Church. The Church is founded in the crucified and glorified Heart of Jesus. By coming to a place of death we encountered Jesus crucified, as members of the public shared their experiences of their abortion experience. In this place of suffering, a seed of healing hope was planted in the hearts of those anguished or in pain, as vigil participants shared their Hope found in the Loving embrace of the Father of the risen Jesus, and the Mercy of His loving embrace. We gave witness to the risen Christ to all those who sought him.
The greatest blessing in our campaign was to experience the love of Jesus. In every person who turned up to pray, Jesus was present as “two or more gathered.” Even in the humble presence of just one person holding vigil, when numbers were stretched, there was a tremendous hope, and expectation for the work of the Savior and Healer in our midst.
As the next campaign will soon be happening, we confide everything to Jesus and call for Him to return in our hearts as we commit ourselves in faith, to be His instruments of Mercy for the end of abortion in our generation.
Come Lord Jesus! +
